breathless for jean seberg (and a guest post)

Readers of SHE who saw my Friday Fame: Jean Seberg post recently will already know that I cite Jean's fabulous character in the classic 1960 French film, À bout de souffle as one of my favorite on-screen style icons. Needless to say, a recreation of the film's most famous scenes through fashion photography is just the thing for me. I've seen bits of this photoshoot over time, but last night I finally found the full set! From Us Vogue all the way back in '90, Christy Turlington plays Jean Seberg's Patricia while Stéphane Ferrara recreates Jean-Paul Belmondo's Michel. I can't believe this set is twenty years old. Where does the time go? This is such a fun tribute, and so wonderfully achieved; Christy and Stéphane captured both the actors and the characters so well, and Ellen von Unwerth recreated the intricately lazy vibe of Godard's first film with vigor. Some of my favorite moments from À bout de souffle are captured here. I wouldn't mind going back in time to 1990 and snagging a copy of this issue - and then going further still to 1960 to see this film in all its original glory!

One of the great things about the internet is the way it gives us access to media and culture from all over the world. I'm so tremendously glad for it, because I'm convinced that Vogue China has the most spectacular, glamorous and decadent editorials in existence. Back in August I raved about Liu Wen's shoot by Paolo Roversi and now I'm here again with Walter Pfieffer's stunning piece, featuring Edita Vikeviciute. Nothing in this shoot seems to be overlooked. The clothes are phenomenal, but I have to say that what I'm loving the most are the settings. Those massive damask wallpapers and the floral print carpets! The way those elements work with the clothes rather than overpowering them is true art. I really want to live in these photographs.

liu wen for vogue china

If you haven't noticed, Liu Wen is unstoppably pretty. I love this set so much. The hair, the make-up, everything is so lovely here. The first Louis Vuitton dress fits her so nicely! I love everything about that shot. I liked the styling of the Dries Van Noten in #3 a lot more on Coco in the Nordstrom catalog, but I guess this one is much more editorialish. I'm in love with the Jason Wu in #7. How so pretty, dress? The colors in this entire shoot are so warm and interesting. Very fall-ish, but in a unique way. Oh, and I wish I could get my hair to do that whole Grace Kelly/Betty Draper wave thing. It's so chic and glamorous!

I haven't read my blogroll in a few days so that will be my project for the weekend, I think. Along with reading my book, which I also haven't done much of lately! What are you all reading at the moment, anything interesting? Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Louis Vuitton's fall/winter 2010 campaign.
Let's talk about how much I love this campaign! I love the hair - especially Karen's, how pretty - the make-up, the clothes, the shoes, the bags, the colors, the textures. Everything is so glamorous! It's reminiscent of Mad Men, but with a unique flare and a very autumnal color palette. I love the influences that Mad Men and the '50s/'60s have on fashion trends, and most especially for the fall. I'm always more apt to do more with my look in the fall rather than summer. In the summer it's hot and I tend to rotate the same cool things; the fall means I get to play with sweaters and (my favorite) scarves! I'm getting so excited!
